Environment, Sustainability & Access.

Information on Sustainability at The Kings Head

Here at The Kings Head we are committed to running a sustainable and modern business within a 200year old building in a picturesque and environmentally sensitive area of Cornwall.

Below is a list of some of the things we do to minimise our impact on the environment.

Recycling and Waste Management

.We use email as our primary method of written communication in order to save paper.

.We use the internet to communicate newsletters, promotions etc in order to keep in touch with our customers.

.We ask our supplies to re-use non-recyclable boxes such as polystyrene.

.Our used cooking oil is collected to be turned into bio fuels.

.All our ink cartridges are recycled

.Our cardboard and glass is collected separately to be recycled

Water Management

We collect rain water in water butts to use when watering our plants

Energy Management

Over the years we have invested, and continue to do so, in several items to reduce our energy consumption and impact on the environment. These include

Updating and upgrading our main electrical boards so that areas can be isolated in quieter months

Replacing bulbs with LED and energy saving bulbs.

Replacing all wooden sash windows to improve insulation of building

Beer cellar cooling system is now on a timer

Up grading of commercial equipment to more energy efficient where possible

Staffing

100% of our staff live within a 5 mile radius of The Kings Head and several are even closer. We actively encourage them to car share and some do walk to work.

Transport

Unfortunately there is no Public Transport to Ruan Lanihorne, the nearest bus stop is over 2.5 miles away.

However, we are on several cycle and walking routes and encourage people to use these.

Access Statemement

The Kings Head is a 200 year old building, set in the picturesque Hamlet of Ruan Lanihorne. The pub is located on a country road with 3 parking spaces in front of the building and it's own small car park situated opposite Ruan Church a minute's walk from the front door.

The front door (800mm) has two large granite steps up to the entrance with hand rails on either side. There is a level access door (700mm) on the right hand side of the building, which will access a wheelchair.

The bar and dining areas are all on level access, with carpeted flooring.  All our tables are of standard height and will access most wheelchairs.

Due to the old nature of the building, both the male and female toilet cubicles will not allow a wheelchair access.

The outside dining terrace in front of the pub is completely level and accessable to all, however, our Beer garden is only accessable down four steps.

All our staff recieve regular training including disability awareness training and are delighted to offer an assistance necessary.

This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to acurately describe the facilities that we offer all our guests.
